Old Town Walk

Gold transformed Dunedin from a Scottish Free Church outpost to New Zealand's leading city.

This two-hour heritage walk showcases the city's Victorian and Edwardian architecture and colourful social history. Includes coffee and entry to St Paul's Cathedral, First Church and Dunedin Railway Station.

Departs from the Dunedin i-SITE Visitor Centre at 10.30am, every day except Sundays. Finishes at Dunedin Railway Station.

Town & Gown Walk

A 90-minute stroll through the charming and architecturally diverse campus of the University of Otago, New Zealand's oldest and most celebrated university. Includes coffee.

Departs from the steps in front of Knox Church, corner of George and Pitt Streets, at 1.30pm. Every day except Sundays.

Breakfast Walk

A one-hour heritage walk followed by breakfast in the city. Departs from the i-SITE at 9am, every day except Sundays. Breakfast is at The Craic. Deluxe option - Full Irish Breakfast including haggis and black puddings - available.

Heritage Highlights Walk

A one-hour heritage walk capped off with whisky and haggis in the city. Departs from the i-SITE at 4pm, every day except Sundays.

Tickets must be purchased before you start the walk. The City Walks guide can accept direct cash payment in $NZ, but EFTPOS or credit card transactions must be processed at the i-SITE.


FAQs

Q. How hard are the walks?

A. The walks are easy, but basic mobility is required. The Breakfast and Heritage Highlights Walks are abridged versions of the Old Town Walk but take just one hour (plus f&b). The Town & Gown route is flat.

Q. How long will they take?
A. The Town & Gown Walk takes 90 minutes - two hours. The Old Town Walk takes two hours. The Breakfast and Heritage Highlights Walks take one hour plus the time to eat your breakfast/ consume your haggis and whisky.

Q. What's the maximum group size?
A. 10 persons.

Q. What should we bring?

A. Comfortable shoes. A camera. Sunscreen. A coat. A hat.

Q. Where do the walks start?
A. The Town & Gown Walk departs from the steps in front of Knox Church, corner of George and Pitt Streets. The other walks depart from the Dunedin i-SITE Visitor Centre, 26 Princes Street (very close to the Octagon).

Q. Where can we park?
A. There is no free carparking in the central city. All-day (metered) carparking is available at the north end of Dunedin Railway Station (a 10-minute walk from the i-SITE). There are two parking buildings in Moray Place (also close to the i-SITE). Pay-and-display parking ($2 per hour, available for 4 hours) is usually available in Pitt Street, near Knox Church (the start point of the Town & Gown Walk, and a 15-minute walk from the i-SITE).

Q. Do you offer walks 7 days a week?
A. No, we walk every day except Sundays.

Q. Do you offer walks all year round?
A. Watch this space! We normally operate September-April (inclusive), but if there is sufficient interest we may operate year-round. Contact us anyway and we may be able to help.
