Easter hours - 13th Apr 2017

Easter hours It's always difficult to guess what is open and operating during Easter weekend, and what is not.

City Walks will not operate Friday, 14th April, nor on Sunday, 16th April.

Regular departures will be offered Saturday, 15th April, and on Monday, 17th April.

There may be some rain over the weekend, but with the autumn colours it is very pretty in Dunedin just now and a great time to see the sights.

Have a safe and happy Easter!

Otago Anniversary Day holiday (March 20) - 17th Mar 2017

Otago Anniversary Day holiday (March 20) Hi Folks,

Monday (March 20th) is Otago Anniversary Day, a public holiday in the south.

The day will mark 169 years of (colonial) settlement here. To celebrate, we'll have a holiday too.
The normal walk schedule will resume Tuesday, March 21st.

Waitangi Day holiday (6 Feb) - 3rd Feb 2017

Waitangi Day holiday (6 Feb) Waitangi Day commemorates the signing in 1840 of the Treaty of Waitangi, a partnership between Maori and the (British) Crown. It's a public holiday, and the closest thing we have to a 'national day', so we're going sailing..

Walks resume on Tuesday, 7 Feb.

Christmas and New Year hours - 22nd Dec 2016

There's still time to do a walk before Christmas. In fact, it's almost business as usual for us through Christmas and New Year.

City Walks is closed on Xmas Day (Sunday, 25th December), New Year's Day (Sunday, 1st January 2017) and Monday, 2nd January.

It's been a great 2016 for us. Merry Christmas to you all, and best wishes for 2017

November hiatus - 2nd Nov 2016

2016/ 2017 Season Underway - 17th Oct 2016

2016/ 2017 Season Underway Spring has sprung, Dunedin is looking a picture, and City Walks is back in 'regular season' mode.

There has been a lot of positive feedback about our 10.30am Old Town Walk, so this season we've decided to offer the Old Town Walk at 10.30am and 1.30pm. The Heritage Highlights Walk, which is a shorter version of the Old Town Walk and includes whisky and haggis (instead of coffee), will again be offered at 4pm.

Remember, the walks depart from Dunedin's i-Site Visitor Information Centre (corner of George Street and The Octagon), daily except Sundays.

Busman's holiday - 11th Jul 2016

Busman's holiday What does a walking-tour guide do for a holiday? He goes for a walk, of course. This time we're off to do the Rakiura Track, on beautiful Stewart Island.

This means that City Walks tours in Dunedin will cease until Monday, 18th July. Remember, this is the winter season, so there's only one departure a day, at 10.30am - and this needs to be booked in advance (see previous news item).

Happy walking,

Wild Dunedin Festival and walk - 15th Apr 2016

City Walks is supporting the inaugural Wild Dunedin Festival. Join us on Friday, April 22nd, on a guided, 2hour stroll which celebrates the natural beauty of Dunedin's inner city, looks at representations of nature in glass and wood and stone, and considers how respect for nature underpins the work of innovative local businesses.

There'll be at least one surprise on the walk, with other highlights including visits to St. Paul's Cathedral and Architecture van Brandenburg. We'll finish at Taste Nature, in High Street.

We'll depart from outside the Dunedin i-Site, 50 The Octagon, on 'Earth Day' (Friday, 22nd April), at 1.30pm. Bookings are not essential, but any queries should be directed to athol@citywalks.co.nz or 027 356 9132

The walk is free, but donations are welcomed: these will be passed to the trust which governs Orokonui Ecosanctuary.
